Our Journey
Viva Restaurant opened in 1993 when Phuong Nguyen's uncle launched the kitchen with
Ha Nguyen and her sister Linh Tran as the founding cooks — just three years after
the family arrived in Canada as Vietnamese refugees. Phuong grew up helping in the
kitchen from age 13 and purchased the family business in January 2009. Today Viva
is a true community cornerstone on Winnipeg's celebrated "foodie row" along
Sargent Avenue, beloved by loyal regulars who have been returning for over 15 years.

Our Menu
Our menu is a celebration of Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine built on family recipes
and ingredients — herbs, spices, pastes, and sauces — sourced directly from Vietnam
several times a year. Signature dishes include our rich bone-broth pho, crispy cha
giò spring rolls made with authentic rice paper, bánh mì subs loaded with grilled
pork, deluxe vermicelli bowls, shrimp and sour soup, lemon chicken, and Korean BBQ
beef. Every dish is prepared lighter, less oily, and fresh — true hallmarks of
authentic Vietnamese cooking.

Our Experience
The 50-seat dining room is comfortable, stylish, and modern, adorned with vibrant
Winnipeg cityscape photographs taken by owner Phuong Nguyen himself. Viva welcomes
families, solo diners, students, tourists, and groups — offering healthy options,
vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices, a full bar, and wheelchair-accessible
facilities. Whether you come in for a quick lunch or a relaxed family dinner, Viva
delivers exceptional value and a warm welcome every time.
